Teen Leadership: Workshops, Hands-on Experience, Volunteer Hours and Much More

Our leadership programs cater to the abilities of all youth. Whether coming in with a vast amount of prior leadership experience or entering your first leadership opportunity within our camps, we ensure that there is a place for everyone. We believe that the early development of strong leadership skills can provide confidence and growth in future employment as well as the continuation and shaping of our camp programs throughout the years to come.

The leadership programs are designed to provide an excellent opportunity for 14- to 16-year-olds to gain further experience working with children, teaching or coaching in a camp environment, and developing leadership skills — both individually and as a team.

Community Service: Volunteer Hours

Upon active completion of the program, participants will receive a letter confirming community service that may be used towards high school requirements. Note that hours are not guaranteed and participants are required to meet full program expectations in order to earn their volunteer hours.

Leaders-in-Training: 10 hours

Junior Leaders: 30 hours

When Do Leaders Select Their Activities?

As part of the registration process, your LIT/JL will be asked to fill out a form establishing their goals for camp and identifying their activity interests. Please be sure your LIT/JL is with you during the registration process.

Camp Sessions:

Throughout the one-week session, Leaders-in-Training and Junior Leaders will participate in a series of training workshops on important topics and life skills that will later be paired with a hands-on learning experience specific to their program level. By the end of each session, our goal is to have each leader confidently leave with new, transferable skills that they are able to apply outside of camp and highlight on their resume.

Hands-on Experience

During their time in the Leader-in-Training Program, participants will receive an opportunity to shadow coaches in an activity of their interest. They will work to provide an extra hand where needed and begin to develop their leadership skills through daily challenges and goal setting.

Building on the success of years past and with their passion for developing young players, Coaches Patrick Tatham and Isabel Ormond have set out to redesign and redefine the basketball camp experience at McMaster. With years of experience coaching elite programs, Patrick, Isabel, and their teams recognize that for athletes to take the next step, they need to work with driven coaches whose tactics reflect the most current and research-supported skill development practices.
