Facility Use and Etiquette

Athletics & Recreation is committed to providing a safe and inclusive space that fosters diversity, equity,  respect and a sense of belonging. We ask all members of our community to participate in this spirit and abide by the following rules, policies, and guidelines to ensure a safe, positive and welcoming experience for all.

  1. A valid membership, day pass or rental agreement is required to access Athletics and Recreation space. Entering without permission, or by fraudulent means, is enforceable under the Trespass to Property Act and is subject to prosecution. All users are required to provide appropriate identification upon entry at the customer service desk or if requested by a staff member.
  2. All staff and participants have the right to a safe and positive environment. Inappropriate behaviour or language will not be tolerated and will result in removal from the facility and may result in suspension or loss of membership or future membership privileges.
  3. Proper attire is required; including but not limited to, shirt, shorts/pants and non-marking, clean, athletic shoes.
  4. Day lockers and rental lockers are available in various locations around the facility. Locks are available for rent at the customer service desk. McMaster University and the Department of Athletics and Recreation are not responsible for lost, stolen or missing property. We recommend valuables be left at home.
  5. Use of cameras and photography are prohibited in changerooms and washrooms. Photography and videography are not permitted in any area without authorization.
  6. Please respect scheduled activities and bookings to allow venue change over periods.
  7. Only venue appropriate equipment is permitted. Please do not move any venue equipment (see the customer service desk for support). No bikes, skateboards or other devices not required for accessibility needs are not permitted in the facility.
  8. Be courteous and respectful of your fellow members; share equipment and spaces.
  9. Please wipe down equipment and mats with towels and disinfectant where provided.
  10. Food, glass containers and gum are not permitted in activity areas.
  11. Please do not spit on floors, mats, turf, or in water fountains.
  12. Please report any damage to equipment, facility issues and/or disrespectful behaviour to customer service staff or email jbsd@mcmaster.ca or reconline@mcmaster.ca
  13. Activity spaces close 30 minutes prior to building closure to allow members time to use changerooms and exit in a timely manner while staff close the facility, your cooperation is appreciated.

Safety

  • Upon hearing the fire alarm and/or direction from staff, please leave the building immediately via the nearest exit.
  • Report suspicious activity to the customer service staff.
  • McMaster University and Athletics and Recreation are not responsible for loss, damage or theft of personal items.

McMaster University and/or Athletics & Recreation reserve the right to remove from, or prohibit use of, the facility to anyone found not complying with University/Department policies, or posted signage.
