Discover McMaster Aquatics
Athletics & Recreation offers many different programs at our 50-metre, six-lane pool, including open recreation and member lane swims, intramural sports, camps, swimming lessons, Marauder varsity sports, rentals and various courses and certifications.

Open Recreation and Member Lane Swims
Swimming is a fantastic fitness activity! Drop-in lane swims are available throughout the week. Lanes are separated into slow, medium and fast to suit your swimming speed.
For pool users who require additional change room privacy, we suggest using the Alternative Change Room (in IWC) off the pool deck. Modesty swimwear (full or partial body covering) is welcome at McMaster.

Aquatics Camps
We offer two different camps programs for your camper who loves the water! From novice to competitive swimmers we will provide a fun experience while building both skills and confidence.

Intramural Sports
We offer a robust Intramurals program including Innertube Basketball and Innertube Water Polo.

Swimming Lessons
We offer private lessons or semi-private lessons consisting of one, two or three participants for all ages, children through adults. Lessons can be tailored to suit personal goals, such as stroke improvement or to mimic the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Programme.
Please note that the participants must generate the groups for semi-private lessons themselves and the participants should be close in ability. Please note that these are set lessons and missed classes are not rescheduled.
Please note that currently we are not offering swimming lessons during the fall term.

Kayaking Course (Beginner Level)
This weekend course taught by instructors from the McMaster Whitewater Club is for people who’ve had little or no instruction in kayaking. In this class, you’ll learn the basics, such as how to properly grip the paddle, how to enter and exit the boat and how to wet exit. You’ll also learn the basic strokes such as the forward stroke, the sweep stroke, low and high braces, the duffek and more. Finally, students are taught some combination strokes which can be used on the river.
Included as part of the beginner kayaking course are access to weekly open sessions and a river theory and water dynamics session, intended to prepare beginners for paddling on rivers.

Lifeguard Competitive Lifesaving Club
We compete against other universities and lifesaving clubs in southern Ontario in events including water rescue, first aid, priority assessment, line throw, mannequin carry, medley relay and obstacle relay. Practices are held twice a week and competitions are held against other Ontario universities and clubs throughout the academic year. It’s a great way to strengthen your first-aid skills and meet new people.
For more information, please contact the Club President at lguard@mcmaster.ca.
All Recreational Swims Are Open to McMaster Students and Recreation Members
We encourage all members of the McMaster community to use the pool.
