Intramural Sports Offer a Chance to Play for Everyone
We offer sport leagues, tournaments, fun and friendship for all abilities. No tryouts, no coaches, no cuts. If you want to play, you can play! Teams and free agents register for the sports of their choice and can expect to play one game per week. We can’t wait to play with you!
Mission, Vision and Values
Intramurals staff are committed to the following mission, vision and values in all that we do.
Our events must contribute positively towards a physically and emotionally safe and inclusive McMaster community. ”Actively inclusive” means we actively work to breakdown barriers to participation and extend invitations to historically marginalized groups.
Each and every participant’s experience must be central in every decision, which will be driven, along with our entire program, by our student-staff leaders.
We are forward-thinking and active creators of an increasingly positive and constructive sport culture.
As staff, we strive for continuous improvement in the delivery of our product — fun, friendship and an active lifestyle through sport — whether in terms of customer service and administration or the in-game sport experience.
We create meaningful work experiences, including unique student-job supervisory/management opportunities and pathways to progress within and between roles. Staff members can expect to both give and receive feedback on their own and others’ performance regularly.
About Intramural Leagues and PlayStyles
Our sports are divided into different leagues and PlayStyles. Leagues largely define any gender-based roster requirements. PlayStyles replace the skill levels used by many other programs and dictate how we play together. Read on to help make your choice. Whichever you choose, remember — it’s all play.
About Gender-Based Roster Requirements
With the exception of our Open leagues, many of our leagues specify gender-based roster requirements, including a minimum number of women or men. There’s some value to this system, but it also falsely perpetuates the idea of gender as a binary and presents other barriers to building an inclusive sports community. For the purposes of our program, the terms “men” and “women” are inclusive of transgender, gender-fluid and agender members of our community. We’ve trained our staff to understand gender as a spectrum and encourage participants to take part in the programs that best represent their gender as they identify.
How Many Teams or Leagues Can I Play in?
- Participants can play in more than one league in a sport (e.g., in soccer, you can play in a Corec League and Gendered League (Open, Men’s or Women’s league).
- However, you can only play in one PlayStyle per league (e.g., for Corec Soccer, you can only play on PlayFun or PlayCompetitive, not both).
- Thus, participants will only be able to participate in one Gendered League (Open, Men’s or Women’s) and one other team (Corec) per sport.
- This means you can only join a maximum of two teams per sport. IMLeagues will not allow you to register for every league in the sport. If you’ve tried to join too many teams within a given sport or league, an error message will appear on IMLeagues.
League Schedules
- Most of our leagues have a regular season and a playoff season. The schedules for these leagues are developed and published 24 to 48 hours before the first game of the respective (regular or playoff) season begins.
- In leagues with both a regular and playoff season, registered teams are guaranteed 6 games (5 regular season games and 1 playoff game).
- Regular season games may vary if the league has an odd number of teams, but each registered team will be guaranteed 1 playoff game, and your remaining games will vary depending on how your team performs.
- Note: Participants must be registered on the team and play in 50% of the regular season games in the league to be eligible for the playoff season.
Types of Leagues
- Open: In an Open league, a team’s roster can consist of participants of all genders. There are no gender-based roster requirements during gameplay.
- Corec: In a Corec league, sport-specific rules dictate gender-based roster requirements for each team (usually equal numbers of women and men):
- Participants must identify as either women or men (even if only for the purposes of Intramural Sports) and each team must satisfy the minimum roster requirements during gameplay.
- A separate set of rule modifications may apply to specific Corec leagues.
- Women’s Leagues: In a Women’s league, a team’s roster must consist of participants who identify as women (even if only for the purposes of Intramural Sports).
- Men’s Leagues: In a Men’s league, a team’s roster must consist of participants who identify as men (even if only for the purposes of Intramural Sports).
All Intramural Sports
- Players and staff respect each other to create a safe and fun-first experience.
- Competition is part of it, but not the whole thing; being active together is most important. Our leagues are run by students (and one full-time staff member) for students (and some alumni, faculty and staff); remember your connection to every other member within our community as you play.
- Respect, safety and fun-first. If you ever find yourself losing sight of this, take a deep breath: Intramural Sports are an exciting part of your student experience, but, in the end, it’s always just a game.
How to Play in PlayFun Leagues
In PlayFun, players range in skill level from beginners just learning the game to experts who have played for years. These players are also known as your “friends.” Regardless of ability or experience, players on both teams take care of each other — you may try hard, but your skills and experience never come at the expense of another player, lesser-skilled or otherwise. Likewise, you may be brand new to a sport and not know all — or any! — of the rules. Overly aggressive and competitive play has no place in our PlayFun leagues, and if you’re the more skilled or experienced player, you don’t aggressively steal, spike, etc., against lesser-skilled players. Quite simply: you play, together, for fun, as friends would. Includes regular gameplay with officials and elimination playoffs.
How to Play in PlayCompetitive Leagues
In PlayComp, participants range in skill level but play competitively and expect teammates and opponents to do the same. Gameplay is often quicker and more intense than PlayFun, but it is always respectful. You and your teammates have a good understanding of the rules. The game includes regular gameplay with officials and elimination playoffs.

Options
-
- Campus Partners and Student Groups – Check out our Campus Partners and Student Groups Listing to see if you belong to one of these groups that may already have teams in our leagues!
- Guaranteed Play – Register as a Free Agent on IMLeagues before the league’s registration closes and be placed on an already-registered team of fellow McMaster community members.
- Register as a Free Agent for the sport of your choice on IMLeagues.com/McMaster
- An existing team may ask you to join with them or they may not during the registration period
- Free Agents will be assigned to teams after league registration closes and before the season begins
- What teams will you be assigned to?
- If there are enough free agents then Intramurals will connect you and create a new Free Agent based team for all
- If there are only a few free agents, then you will be assigned to teams after the league registration closes
- You can expect your new team to ask you to pay your share of their Team Entry fee.
Captains organize their teammates, register and make payment on behalf of their team. Registration dates are staggered across the school year, with the bulk in early September for Fall Sports, and mid-November for Winter Sports.
There’s 5 Steps to Completing Registration:
- Find the league you would like to play in using our Sport Calendar (PDF) or IMLeagues.com/McMaster
- Register your team in that league on IMLeagues
- Add enough teammates to your roster on IMLeagues to meet the minimum roster requirement for that league
- Pay for your team online using IMLeagues or in-person at the DBAC JBSD Desk (Business Office Staff)
- Be ready to welcome any Free Agent teammates that may be added to your team
In more detail:
- Find the league you would like to play in using our Sport Calendar (PDF) or IMLeagues.com/McMasterYou’ll have a chance to share your time preference during registration and we’ll do our best to accommodate whenever possible, but be ready to play during any of the times listed for your league! If you would rather be withdrawn and refunded if we can’t get a certain day/time for you, be sure to send us an email when you register. Otherwise, be ready to play!
- Register your team in that league on IMLeaguesNavigate to IMLeagues.com/McMaster and find your sport and league. Click ‘Create Team’ to start the process. If you aren’t already logged-in to your account, you will be asked to login or create an account on IMLeagues.
- Add enough teammates to your roster on IMLeagues to meet the minimum roster requirement for that leagueTeammates can request to join your team or you can send them an invitation. Either way, enough of them will need to create their own individual account on IMLeagues and be added to your roster to satisfy the minimum roster requirements for that league in order to move forward with registration. You won’t be able to pay or be approved and included in the schedule until they do. Each and every teammate beyond the minimum roster requirement must also create an account and join your team on IMLeagues in order to play, but they can do this later, if you’ve already met the minimum requirement
- Pay for your team online using IMLeagues or in-person at the DBAC JBSD Desk (Business Office Staff):
- In-Person Payments: Register on IMLeagues first and then pay before the end of next business day at DBAC JBSD Desk (Business Office Staff).
- Online Payments: Pay via IMLeagues.com using an existing credit card or PayPal account.
- Be ready to welcome any Free Agent teammates that may be added to your team!
In the spirit of getting active, having fun and making friends, it’s especially important that everyone has a chance to play, whether they have enough friends to form a team or not. Your team may have up to 2 players added to your roster before the start of the season. Make sure they feel welcome!
- Smaller team rosters will be assigned Free Agents first, so it’s important your existing teammates join your roster before registration closes! Check your roster on IMLeagues to see new additions. If you really want a Free Agent, don’t wait for us to add them to your team: Invite them yourself on IMLeagues!
- Now the important part: This is your chance to deliver on the promise of sport to enrich a community and bring people together. As an existing team, you’re expected to recognize it can be challenging to join a team of established friends and be extra welcoming and supportive of any Free Agent additions to your team. Our hope is you’ll all find new friends and live happily ever after.
- You can expect any Free Agent additions to pay an equal portion of your team fee the same as the rest of your teammates, and to be a respectful new friend on your team and play in accordance with your league’s PlayStyle. You can also expect us to be here to support you and answer any questions and concerns.
- Removing a Free Agent from your roster that was assigned to your team will result in a deduction from your Spirt of Competition Rating. Teams must have an average Spirit of Competition rating of 3 at the end of regular season or they may be removed from the league and will not continue to the playoff season.
*** IMPORTANT ***: After Registering your team on IMLeagues!
To be included in the schedule, you must mee the following two criteria BY the end of the you league registration date:
- ROSTER REQUIREMENTS: Your team must meet the minimum roster requirement on IMLeagues. Not everyone needs to be on your roster by that date, but at least the minimum must be met.
- PAYMENT: You can’t pay until you’ve met the minimum roster requirement!
- In-Person Payments: Pay at DBAC JBSD Desk (Business Office Staff).
- Online Payments: Pay via IMLeagues.com using an existing credit card or PayPal account.
- DO NOT make a payment for your team if you are on the Waitlist!
- Get your teammates to sign-up so you meet the minimum roster requirement! We will contact you if a spot comes available and ask you to make payment. Priority is given to teams that have met the roster requirement in the order that you joined the waitlist.
Participant Responsibilities
Everyone in our community plays a role in building a safe, welcoming and inclusive campus. We ask that all students and members respect one another; students follow the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities, all Intramural participants follow the facility rules of use and adhere to the following Intramural requirements:AYER ELIGIBILITY
- Attend mandatory captains’ meetings when scheduled.
- Be fully conversant with the Intramural processes and rules and ensure team members are informed of these expectations.
- Inform team members of the league schedule and rules.
- Check team standings and report any inaccuracies to intramurals@mcmaster.ca.
- All participants: Must have an active Athletics & Recreation membership.
- Students: All full and part-time students are members.
- Alumni, faculty and staff: Guest passes are available and are subject to the discretion of the Intramural Coordinator. The cost of the pass is dependent on fees set by Athletics & Recreation.
- Community members: All participants not included in the above groups must hold a valid membership for the duration of their league.
- Student/member cards: All participants must present their Student/Member Card to their scorekeeper/official/convener prior to the game starting. Players failing to present their card will be allowed to participate, but they must present their card at the Intramural office (DBAC/WG101) by 4:00 p.m. of the next business day.
- Alumni participants: Unlimited alumni may participate provided they have a valid membership.
- Marauder Maroon and Grey-tiered varsity athletes are not permitted to play on an Intramural team in a related sport (e.g., a student-athlete listed on the Marauder soccer roster on Marauders.ca is welcome to play volleyball, basketball and floorball, but not in any of our soccer leagues, regardless of PlayStyle).
- Exception: Women-identifying Marauder varsity athletes may play in a related sport as long as their team is in the most competitive available PlayStyle. Why an exception? We’re working hard to increase participation among women at McMaster, and removing the restriction on varsity players for women means more players, more teams, and more fun in our women’s leagues.
- Professional athletes: Professional athletes are prohibited from competing in McMaster Intramural athletics in related sports.
- Playing on multiple teams: An individual may represent only one team within a sport league. Teams using players from other teams to avoid forfeiting must gain approval from the opposition in the presence of the game official/league convener.
- Ice hockey goaltenders are an exception to this rule, and may play on multiple teams
- This rule is designed to avoid forfeits; a team may not repeatedly use the same individual.
- Team roster: All participants must register and be added to the team roster on IMLeagues.com. All currently registered participants will appear on printed game sheets. New additions are welcome to manually add themselves to the game sheet, but they must be added to the team roster on IMLeagues.com within 48 hours, or the game will be recorded as a default loss.
- Playoff eligibility: Players must sign in at all games, and must play at least 50% of the regular season contests to be eligible for playoffs:
- Most regular seasons are 5 games. Players must participate in the next “whole number” games above 50% (e.g., In the McMaster Intramural Program, a 5-game season requires participation at a minimum of 2 games).
- Injured players must participate in a minimum of 50% of the games in which they are physically able to play.
- Sport-specific rules: Individual sports rules can be found online on the various sports pages. Any clarifications should be made with the Intramural office area
- Cheating: Any person found cheating will be disqualified from Intramural activities for a defined period of time. Teams who have cheated will forfeit all points accumulated during the time cheating occurred and are subject to removal from play, and/or loss of Performance Bond.
- Fighting: Any person who fights and/or directs abuse toward officials or fellow participants during an Intramural activity will be immediately suspended from all Intramural activities and referred to the Student Case Management Office. Technical rules of each sport apply when sanctioning a fighting violation during the contest (e.g., red card in soccer; team plays short a player).
- Postponements:
- Inclement weather: On days when the status of play is questioned, contestants should contact the Intramural office for a decision at 3:00 p.m. on the day in question. Outdoor sports will not be played in lightning/thunder conditions.
- University closure: In the event of a university-wide closure, all Intramural activities are postponed. Participants should consult the McMaster Daily News to confirm a closure.
- No officials: If no officials are present for a game, teams should mutually agree to play it using one player from each team as an official; if agreed, this game shall count as a legal game and will be included in the league standings.
- Rescheduling: Postponements due to weather, facility-booking conflicts, etc., will be handled by the Intramural office staff. Captains will be notified of the postponement and advised of the rescheduling of the missed games.
- Note: Due to limited facility space, rescheduling to accommodate team/player conflicts is not an option — see Section E, Part 1: Defaults.
- Standings: All league standings are posted on the IMLeagues.
- Errors in standings: Teams are responsible for reporting any errors in standings.
- Please report the game date/time, teams involved and correct score.
- Office staff will confirm with our original game sheets and will consult the opposing captain and/or convener if there is any discrepancy.
- Missed games: Postponed games, which cannot be rescheduled, will not unfairly affect team records. Team standings will be calculated based on winning percentage and points for/against.
- Play-off competition: The structure of the playoffs shall always consider the skill level of the participants.
- Defaults:
- Minimum 24-hour notice: A default is recorded any time a team is unable to play at the scheduled time but has given a minimum of 24 hours’ notice to:
- Opposition’s Captain
- Intramural Sports Office: intramurals@mcmaster.ca
- Second default: Two defaults, regardless of notification may result in suspension from further competition.
- Minimum 24-hour notice: A default is recorded any time a team is unable to play at the scheduled time but has given a minimum of 24 hours’ notice to:
- Forfeits:
- No-show: If a team fails to appear and make themselves known at the appointed play location within 5 minutes of the scheduled start time of a game, the official in charge shall declare the contest forfeited to the team/contestant ready to play. The game clock begins at the scheduled start time.
- If neither team appears with the minimum required number of players then a double forfeit is declared.
- Short players: A team may be required to forfeit a game if it has fewer than the minimum number of players following the 5-minute grace period.
- Two shorthanded teams may agree to play the game with equal number of players. If the game is played, then it will count toward the final standings.
- Unless otherwise stated in the sport-specific rules, the minimum number of players is:
- One less than regulation for sports requiring six (6) or fewer regulation players per team.
- Two less than regulation for sports requiring more than six (6) regulation players per team.
- Ineligible players: A team shall forfeit any contest in which it uses an ineligible player (see Section B: Player Eligibility).
- Unsporting behaviour: A contest shall be declared a forfeit by the official in charge when a team/competitor displays flagrantly poor sporting behaviour or leaves from the playing area prior to the completion of the contest.
- Forfeiting team repercussions:
- Loss of game
- May be excluded from the playoffs
- Loss of Performance Bond (Ice Hockey only)
- Default/forfeit game scores: Defaulted/forfeited games will be scored as a loss for the defaulting/forfeiting team, with the winning team being awarded a predetermined number of points for/against.
- No-show: If a team fails to appear and make themselves known at the appointed play location within 5 minutes of the scheduled start time of a game, the official in charge shall declare the contest forfeited to the team/contestant ready to play. The game clock begins at the scheduled start time.
Overview of Appeals
We are committed to procedural fairness in decision-making within the Intramurals Program. Participants have the right to appeal formal sanctions under certain circumstances. The following outlines the appeal process for those who believe a decision was made in error or was unjust.
What can be appealed?
Please note that only formal sanctions (e.g., suspensions, game bans) may be appealed. Informal warnings or automatic penalties are not eligible for appeal (e.g. Protests of a game official’s judgment will not be considered)
Grounds for Appeal
- New information not available at the time of the decision
- Belief that the policy was applied unfairly or incorrectly
- Procedural error in the original decision
How to submit an appeal: Within 3 days of receiving the sanction, submit a written appeal to the Intramurals Office at intramurals@mcmaster.ca. Include your name, contact information, details of the sanction and the reasons you believe the decision should be reconsidered.
Who reviews the appeal: Appeals are reviewed by Intramurals Appeals Committee. The Appeals Committee is comprised of a member of the department Senior Leadership Team, an Intramural Sport Supervisor not involved in the incident, and a student representative. They will evaluate the evidence and circumstances surrounding your case.
Decision timeline and outcome: The Appeals Committee will make a decision within 10 days of the appeal being submitted. You will be notified of the outcome in writing. The decision of the Appeals Committee is final. If your appeal is successful, the sanction will be lifted or modified accordingly. If the appeal is denied, the original sanction will remain in effect.
Items of Protest:
- Rule interpretation: All rule interpretations (NB: difference between “rule interpretation” and “official’s judgment”) must be made by the team captain/representative at the time of the dispute; the official must provide a rule interpretation and explain it to both captains before play continues.
- Opposition player eligibility: If the eligibility of your opposition is in question, notify the game official/league convener of your concerns; the game is to be played under protest.
Protest Procedure:
- Inform the game official/league convener that the game is under protest;
- Game sheet: Note the protest/appeal on the game sheet;
- Written report: All protests must be made in writing and submitted within 24 hours of the game in question to the Intramural Sports Program Coordinator.
- Unless these procedures have been followed the protest will not be considered.
- Good sporting behaviour: Teams and associated parties are required to show good sporting behaviour on and off the playing area, before, during and after games.
- Spirit of competition: Means respecting the rules, respecting the officials and their decisions, respecting your opponents and maintaining your self-control at all times.
- Who Awards Points?
- During the regular season, captains rate opponents, referees and game-day supervisors rate both teams. At the beginning of each game team ratings will start at “0” and stay at “0” on average, go up for positive and down for negative sporting behaviour. All scores will be added up throughout the regular season and this will give a team its final Spirit of Competition rating total.
- Who is involved?
- Every participant, official and game-day supervisor will have an active part in upholding these principles. A team’s sporting behaviour will be measured through a rating structure of 1 to 5, called Spirit of Competition ratings (S.O.C.). These scores are an indication of how well a team has upheld their positive sporting behaviour in a game.
- Regular Season
- Teams must have an average Spirit of Competition rating of 3 at the end of regular season or they may be removed from the league and will not continue to the playoff season.
- Spirit of Competition Rating Scale
- 5 Excellent
- Excellent team sporting behaviour towards opponents and officials (e.g., team always maintains an outstanding attitude, captains always question officials in a respectful manner and entire team shakes hands at the end of the game).
- Entire team maintains self-control at all times.
- No major penalties/incidents.
- Penalties are next to none.
- 4 Good
- Good team sporting behaviour towards opponents and officials (e.g., team always maintains a good attitude most of the game, no conflicts).
- Entire team maintains self-control at all times.
- No major penalties/incidents.
- Penalties are very few.
- 3 Average (starting point for rating teams)
- Good team sporting behaviour towards opponents and officials (e.g., negative attitudes are limited to an individual rather than the entire team).
- Lack of self-control is limited to an individual, not the entire team.
- No major penalties/incidents.

Registration, Who Can Play, Performance Bonds
It’s my first year at McMaster. What do I need to know?
First and foremost, get involved! McMaster Intramurals offers a wonderful opportunity to achieve work-life balance throughout your university career: Sign up, meet friends, keep moving and play! Find or form a team by asking around, taking part in campus welcome events and registering on time. Join as a “Free Agent” if you don’t have a team. Playdates for each sport are listed in the Intramural Sport calendar on the “Play with us!” page. Teams will average one game per week falling on any of the days listed outside day-class hours.
Can I play Intramural Sports if I don’t have a team?
Yes! Sign up as an individual “Free Agent.”
Can I add my team to the wait list if the league is full?
Yes, this is always a possibility. To add your name to the waitlist, drop by the Intramural office – no payment is necessary unless your team is offered a spot in the league.
Are there any accommodations available to participate in Intramural sports?
Yes. We are committed to working proactively to ensure members of all abilities can access our facilities, sports, programs and events. We welcome feedback on ways to better serve all members, especially with respect to accessibility and inclusion. If you require an accommodation to participate in any of our Intramural Sports, please complete the accommodation requests form.
When and how do I get my Performance Bond money back?
Bonds are only collected for Ice Hockey. Captains of eligible teams can pick up their Performance Bond following their last game. Bring your receipt to the office along with whatever payment method (credit, debit card) you used during registration. Pick-up Deadline: April 25th of the school year in which your team competed.
Can non-McMaster students play Intramural Sports? How much does it cost?
The entire McMaster community is welcome to join, though eligibility requirements differ depending on your relationship with McMaster.
What’s up with gender-based roster requirements and the false gender binary?
Our leagues often specify roster requirements, including a minimum number of women or men. There’s value to this system, but it also falsely perpetuates the idea of gender as a binary and presents other barriers to our building an inclusive sport community. We’ve identified that we can do better in acknowledging and training our staff to understand gender as a spectrum and respect and support our participants in playing as they identify. Questioning another participant’s gender identity is incredibly disrespectful and unacceptable.
Can my teammate play even if their name doesn’t appear on the gamesheet?
Yes, but they must join the team online before the game is checked. If they’re not there, they’re considered ineligible, and your team will suffer the loss. Ensuring that players belong to only one team is a way to prevent stacking teams with ringers.
How many games do I have to play to be eligible for playoffs?
Players are required to participate in at least 50% of a team’s regular season games to be eligible for playoffs. Make sure you sign in at every game so we know you were there.
How many teams can I play on per semester (Fall or Winter)?
Participants can play in more than one league in a sport but only one PlayStyle per league. This means you can only join a maximum of two teams per sport. IMLeagues will not allow you to register for every league in the sport.
Are there Intramurals in the summer, May to August?
Not yet! In the meantime, there are a few leagues that play on or near campus which, though not affiliated with McMaster Intramurals, are listed below: Grad Students Association: Coed Softball – Soccer, Hamilton Ultimate Club, and many others.
Captain’s Duties, Showing Up, Protests
What are the Team Captain’s responsibilities?
Team Captains are responsible for understanding and relaying the Code of Conduct to their teammates and ensuring everyone has a great time — on all teams! They are also responsible for signing the game sheet before and after each game — marking the Spirit of Competition, ensuring their teammates register and join their team roster on IMLeagues, notifying their opponent and staff if they are unable to field a team for a game, notifying the Intramural Office if a game score is misreported on IMLeagues, and attending any captains’ meetings that league staff schedule.
What happens if my team doesn’t show up for (forfeits) a game?
If a team does not attend a game without defaulting, they lose the match and risk losing their playoff eligibility. Details can be found in the Code of Conduct.
How does my team default a game and avoid forfeiting?
A default must be announced at least 24 hours in advance by contacting intramurals@mcmaster.ca and the opposing team’s captain. Once a team has defaulted two or more games, they may be excluded from playoffs. Most important is making sure the other team and staff don’t show up for a game against your team when you know you won’t be showing up.
How do I protest the result of an Intramural game?
Protests of an officials’ judgement will not be considered, and protests must be made in writing and submitted to the Intramural office within 24 hours of the game in question. Details can be found in the Code of Conduct.
What colour shirts should my team wear?
Bringing a light and dark shirt is always a good idea. The plan is as follows: If your team doesn’t have a designated colour (e.g., “The Pylons” might always wear orange), then the home team wears dark shirts and the away team wears light shirts. Light grey is not considered a colour. Check your schedule to see who’s home and away.
What is the Spirit of Competition?
Spirit of Competition means respecting the rules, respecting the officials and their decisions, respecting your opponents and maintaining your self-control at all times. During the regular season, captains rate opponents, referees and game-day supervisors rate both teams. At the beginning of each game, team ratings will start at “0” and stay at “0” on average, go up for positive and down for negative sporting behaviour. All scores will be added up throughout the regular season and this will give a team its final Spirit of Competition rating total. Teams must have an average Spirit of Competition rating of 3 at the end of the regular season or they may be removed from the league and will not continue to the playoff season.
Schedules, Locations, Standings and Cancellations
When does my team’s schedule go up on the website?
League schedules (regular season) are typically published 1–2 days before your league start date. Participants will be emailed as soon as the schedule is available. Most leagues consist of a regular season and a playoff season. Registered teams are guaranteed 6 games (5 regular season games and 1 playoff game).
When will my playoff schedule be available?
Playoff schedules will be ready ASAP following your league’s last regular season games. Captains will be emailed as soon as the schedule is uploaded (24–48 hours before your first game).
My team is going to be short of players. Can we reschedule our game?
Once schedules are released online, changes are only made due to facility or weather-related cancellations. Captains can reschedule their own games by swapping game times with other teams in the league, filling their roster with alternate players, or defaulting the game. Connect with your opponent to negotiate a game time swap and email intramurals@mcmaster.ca to confirm the details.
Where is my game being played?
Your online schedule shows the location where you’ll be playing, and the Play Locations Map should help from there. If you’re still lost, contact the Joan Buddle Service Desk at 905-525-9140 ext. 24612.
The weather is bad. Is my game cancelled?
Games are played “rain or shine” but cancelled in the event of thunder/lightning storms or unsafe field conditions. Check the Twitter feed on your sport page for updates. Contact the Intramural office between 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for weekday cancellations. If the University closes, all Intramural games on that day are cancelled.
How are my standings determined?
By points, if all teams played the same number of games, teams receive two points for a win, one for a tie and zero for a loss. By winning percentage, if different teams have played a different number of games. Ties are broken based on head-to-head results, then points for/against.
